Patch Notes

This page is a historical record of the major content updates to Yomi no Sho. Each entry includes the patch version, release date, and a summary of the most significant changes. Full patch notes are available on the official website; this page is a community-curated summary focused on changes that affect the wiki’s content.

Released: Winter of Ash, ritual year 3

The Frozen Throne update added the Frozen Peak zone, the Ascension-tier-4 progression path, and the Heartfire Anvil crafting station. This is the largest content update in the game’s history, adding roughly 30% more content to the late game.

Major changes:

  • Added the Frozen Peak zone, including the Frostbound enemy, the Frozen Tears Ascension material, and the Frozen Peak world boss.
  • Added Ascension tier 4, raising the level cap to 120 and unlocking the tier-4 skill tree for all Shades.
  • Added the Heartfire Anvil crafting station, used to craft the Heartfire, Skyfather, and Withering gear sets.
  • Added the Heartfire Set, Skyfather Set, and Withering Set, the strongest gear sets in the game.
  • Added the Frostbound enemy, a high-defence, slow-attack combatant that applies a stacking Frostbite debuff.
  • Rebalanced the Unmade King encounter to account for the new tier-4 gear. The King’s HP was increased by 25%, and the Aura of Dissolution damage was increased by 10%.
  • Fixed a long-standing bug where the Diminution stat was not being applied correctly to Shades deployed in the idle system. This fix effectively increased idle yields by 5–10% for most accounts.

Lore additions:

  • The Frozen Peak’s lore establishes that the zone is the source of the Heartfire material, which is the physical manifestation of a soul’s last warmth before dissolution. This lore has significant implications for the broader cosmology and is the subject of active community theory-crafting.
  • The Heartfire Set’s lore reveals that the set was originally crafted by the original Scribe before the Loss. This is the first direct reference to the original Scribe’s crafting ability, and it suggests that the original Scribe was more than a mere recorder.

Released: Winter of Ash, ritual year 2

The Sunless Throne update added the game’s endgame zone and the Unmade King boss encounter. This update marked the game’s transition from a progression-focused RPG to a fully-fledged endgame experience.

Major changes:

  • Added the Sunless Throne zone, including the Unmade King boss encounter.
  • Added the Unmade King, a multi-phase boss with unique mechanics and the highest stats in the game.
  • Added the King’s Decree item, a single-use item that grants the player a copy of one of the King’s Decree abilities.
  • Added the Withered Petal crafting material, dropped in the Sunless Throne and used to craft the Withering Set.
  • Rebalanced the Drowning Marsh to be more accessible to tier-2 parties. The Drowned Wraith’s Speed was reduced by 10%, and the slow stacking cap was reduced from 15 to 10.

Lore additions:

  • The Sunless Throne’s lore establishes that the zone is where the Unmade drift, and that the Unmade King is the most-coherent of the Unmade. The King’s identity is the subject of significant community speculation.
  • The Unmade King’s lore reveals that the King’s Decree abilities are remnants of its mortal authority. This is the first confirmation that the Unmade retain some aspects of their living selves, which has significant implications for the broader cosmology.

Released: Autumn of Tethers, ritual year 2

The Drowning Marsh update added the game’s second tier-2 zone, the Drowned Wraith enemy, and the Ascension-tier-2 progression path.

Major changes:

  • Added the Drowning Marsh zone, including the Drowned Wraith enemy, the Drowned Silk Ascension material, and the Marsh Lily crafting material.
  • Added Ascension tier 2, raising the level cap to 90 and unlocking the tier-2 skill tree for all Shades.
  • Added the Bell Keeper’s Forge crafting station, used to craft tier-1 and tier-2 gear.
  • Added the Phoenix Mantle, Storm Caller, and Hag’s Mantle gear sets.
  • Rebalanced Kagaribi to be more competitive in tier-2 content. Her Cinder Burst skill’s per-stack damage bonus was increased from +15% to +20%, and her Phoenix Tether passive’s buff duration was increased from 4 seconds to 5 seconds.

Lore additions:

  • The Drowning Marsh’s lore establishes that the zone is the source of the Drowned Wraiths, and that the Wraiths are the souls of those who died by water. The lore also establishes that the Wraiths are uniquely hostile among the souls of Yomi, which is the lore-justification for the zone’s high difficulty.
  • Suijin’s lore was significantly expanded, establishing her as the Warden of the Marsh and the goddess of water and memory. Her relationship with Kagutsuchi was also established as tense, which is the lore-justification for the zones’ elemental matchups.

Released: Spring of Lanterns, ritual year 2

The Hall of Eight Pillars update added the Ascension system, the Hall of Eight Pillars location, and the tier-1 skill trees for all Shades.

Major changes:

  • Added the Ascension system, allowing Shades to be Ascended past the level-30 soft cap.
  • Added the Hall of Eight Pillars location, where Ascension is performed.
  • Added Ascension tier 1 for all Shades, raising the level cap to 60 and unlocking the tier-1 skill tree.
  • Added the Bone Ash Ascension material, dropped by Tethered Skeletons.
  • Added the Sanzu Coin currency, required for all Ascensions.
  • Rebalanced the Tethered Skeleton to be more challenging. The Skeleton’s Grapple attack’s immobilisation duration was increased from 1.5 seconds to 2 seconds.

Lore additions:

  • The Hall of Eight Pillars’ lore establishes that the Hall is the centre of Yomi’s geography, and that it is the only zone reachable from every other zone without transit through an intermediate. This lore has significant implications for the structure of Yomi and is the foundation for much of the subsequent lore.
  • The Ascension ritual’s lore establishes that the ritual resets a Shade’s level but permanently increases their base stats. The lore-justification is that the ritual “burns away” the Shade’s accumulated experience, leaving only the essential self — which is stronger for having been refined.

Released: Spring of Lanterns, ritual year 1 (game launch)

The Warder’s Bargain was the game’s launch update, establishing the core mechanics, the starting zones, and the game’s overarching plot.

Major changes:

  • Added the Banks of Sanzu, Field of Tethered Bones, Hollow Shrine, and Mount Kagura zones.
  • Added the Wandering Hollow, Tethered Skeleton, Festival Ghost, and Shrine Priest enemies.
  • Added the tutorial Shade Kagaribi, the game’s first playable unit.
  • Added the combat system, including the tick-based resolution order, the affinity wheel, and the damage formula.
  • Added the idle system, including the 12-hour offline accumulation cap and the idle yield calculation.
  • Added the Scribe’s Workbench crafting station, used to craft tier-0 gear.
  • Added the Ember Focus and Guardian gear sets.

Lore additions:

  • The game’s opening cinematic establishes the Three Premises (Persistence, Diminution, Naming) and the player character’s bargain with the Scribe.
  • The Banks of Sanzu’s lore establishes the cosmology of Yomi and the role of the Warder.
  • The Scribe’s dialogue establishes him as the player’s primary NPC contact and the source of quest direction.

The closed beta of Yomi no Sho ran for six months before the public launch. The beta included roughly 60% of the launch content and was used to balance the combat system and the economy. Beta progress was wiped at launch; beta players received a cosmetic Lantern of Arrival as a reward.

The beta is not documented in detail on this wiki, but the Items Index includes “beta-only” notes for items that were significantly changed between the beta and the launch.
