Flame Priest (炎神主)
The Flame Priest (炎神主) is a healer and quest-giver NPC in Zone 7 (Throne of Kagutsuchi). He tends a sacred fire at the entrance to the throne room, and he’s the only healer outside Yomi Town — a critical service given how punishing zone 7’s enemies are. He also offers the final quest in the game’s 7-quest chain.
Services
Section titled “Services”- Heals HP at 2 gold per HP restored (same rate as the Shrine Maiden).
- Heals MP at 5 gold per MP restored (same rate as the Shrine Maiden).
- Offers one quest: “Throne of Fire”.
- Does not sell or buy items.
Quest offered
Section titled “Quest offered”Throne of Fire (火神玉座)
Section titled “Throne of Fire (火神玉座)”“The Flame Priest’s sacred fire is beset. Slay 15 of the Infernal Oni and Flame Wraiths that defile Kagutsuchi’s throne — the fire will reward you.”
- Type: Kill
- Target: Any enemy (
*wildcard) - Count: 15
- Reward: 500 gold
- Prerequisite: Ash Revenant Hunt must be completed.
This is the final quest in the game’s 7-quest chain. It progresses automatically as you fight in zone 7. Both Infernal Oni and Flame Wraiths count. At ~30 fights per hour of active play, this quest takes roughly 30 minutes to complete.
Healing cost
Section titled “Healing cost”The Flame Priest charges the same rates as the Shrine Maiden in Yomi Town: 2g/HP, 5g/MP. There is no markup for being in a higher zone. This makes him a critical resource for zone 7 farming — without him, you’d have to travel back to Yomi Town every time you needed healing, which would significantly slow your farm rate.
Dialogue tree
Section titled “Dialogue tree”Opening (greet)
Section titled “Opening (greet)”“The fire burns, traveler — Kagutsuchi’s last gift to the dead. Sit, let me tend your wounds. Two gold for every wound closed, five for every spark of spirit restored. The rates are fair, even here in the dark.”
Options:
- “Please heal me” → “The fire shares its warmth. Bow your head — Kagutsuchi listens, even diminished.” (triggers heal service)
- “Tell me of Kagutsuchi” → continues to kagutsuchi.
- “What lies beyond?” → continues to yomi_heart.
- “I must go” → “Go, then. The fire will be here, as long as I tend it. Which is to say — not forever.” (ends conversation)
kagutsuchi
Section titled “kagutsuchi”“Kagutsuchi — the god of fire, the son of Izanagi and Izanami. His birth killed his mother, and his father cut him down in grief. But a god does not die. He lingers, diminished, in the throne room behind me. The fire I tend is his last ember. When it goes out, the throne falls entirely to the dark.”
Options:
- “Can the fire be rekindled?” → “That is the question, isn’t it? Some say yes — that a wanderer strong enough could descend into Yomi’s Heart and retrieve a spark from Izanami herself. But that is a tale for another day, and a stronger traveler than I.” (returns to greet)
- “Thank you” → “The fire shares its warmth freely. So do I.” (ends conversation)
yomi_heart
Section titled “yomi_heart”“Past the throne lies Yomi’s Heart — the innermost zone, where the Yomotsu-shikome and the shade of Izanami herself drift. Few who enter return. The enemies there are the strongest in Yomi — 800, 1000 HP, attacks that can one-shot a fragile wanderer. Do not go unprepared.”
Options:
- “Thank you” → “Survive. The fire needs wanderers to tend it, after I am gone.” (ends conversation)
When to visit
Section titled “When to visit”Visit the Flame Priest:
- Whenever you need healing in zone 7. He’s at the zone entrance — much more convenient than travelling back to Yomi Town.
- Once, when you first enter zone 7, to accept the “Throne of Fire” quest.
- After killing 15 enemies in zone 7, to claim the 500 gold quest reward.
Lore significance
Section titled “Lore significance”The Flame Priest is the game’s most lore-significant NPC. Through his dialogue, you learn:
- Kagutsuchi’s backstory: he’s the god of fire, son of Izanagi and Izanami, killed by his father after his birth killed his mother. But gods don’t die — he lingers, diminished, in the throne room.
- The sacred fire the priest tends is Kagutsuchi’s last ember. When it goes out, the throne falls to the dark.
- The path forward: the priest hints that a strong enough wanderer could descend into Yomi’s Heart (zone 8) and retrieve a spark from Izanami herself — but this is endgame content, not yet implemented as a specific quest.
This lore directly sets up zone 8 (Yomi’s Heart) as the game’s endgame destination, and frames the Izanami Shade enemy as the shade of the goddess herself, diminished but not gone.
