NPCs Overview

NPC roles explained
Section titled “NPC roles explained”Merchant
Section titled “Merchant”Merchants sell items from a fixed shop inventory. Each merchant has a different inventory, reflecting their zone — the Kitsune Merchant in Yomi Town sells starter gear, while the Ash Wanderer in zone 5 sells mid-game gear. All merchants buy items at 50% of their value, with no haggling or reputation system.
Healer
Section titled “Healer”Healers restore your HP and MP for gold. The rate is fixed: 2 gold per HP restored, 5 gold per MP restored. This is consistent across all healers (Shrine Maiden in town, Flame Priest in zone 7). Healing in town is no cheaper than healing in zone 7, but it’s more convenient because you’re already there to sell loot.
Quest-giver
Section titled “Quest-giver”Quest-givers offer quests from the game’s 7-quest chain. Each quest has a prerequisite (the previous quest in the chain) and a reward (gold, XP, and sometimes items). See Quests for the full chain.
Guards don’t offer services — they offer warnings and zone information. Talk to them when you enter a new zone to learn about the enemies and any special mechanics.
Storyteller
Section titled “Storyteller”Storytellers don’t offer services either — they offer lore. The Ronin Ghost in Yomi Town is the game’s primary lore NPC, and talking to him advances the quest chain even though he doesn’t directly give quests beyond the first one.
Dialogue system
Section titled “Dialogue system”Every NPC has a branching dialogue tree. When you talk to an NPC, you see their opening line and a list of response options. Each option may chain to another dialogue node, end the conversation, or trigger a service (open the shop, heal, accept a quest).
The dialogue is not AI-generated — it’s pre-written, with each NPC having a distinct voice. The Ronin Ghost is melancholic, the Kitsune Merchant is sly and mocking, the Shrine Maiden is gentle and devout. The dialogue trees are documented on each NPC’s page.

Section titled “Quests available per NPC”The 7-quest chain is distributed across 5 NPCs:
