Ash Wanderer (灰流浪人)

The Ash Wanderer (灰流浪人) is a merchant NPC in Zone 5 (Ashen Oni Wastes). She’s a wandering trader with a cart full of rare gear, and she’s the second merchant in the game (after the Kitsune Merchant in Yomi Town). She also offers the “Ash Revenant Hunt” quest, which rewards a unique Oni Mask item.

• Sells mid-game gear (rare-rarity items, zone 2–5 appropriate).
• Buys any item at 50% of its value (same rate as the Kitsune Merchant).

She does not sell common-rarity starter gear. If you need that, return to the Kitsune Merchant in Yomi Town.

Ash Revenant Hunt (灰亡霊狩り)

“The Ash Wanderer points to the Oni and Gaki that swarm the wastes. Slay 10 of them and she will part with a rare trinket from her cart.”

• Count: 10
• Reward: 300 gold + Oni Mask (rare-rarity helmet, +5 DEF, +35 HP, +3 ATK)
• Prerequisite: Into the Ashen Wastes must be completed.

The Oni Mask is a unique reward — it’s the only item in the game that’s given as a quest reward rather than dropped or bought. It’s a solid rare-rarity helmet that’s worth wearing through zone 6.

This quest progresses automatically as you fight in zone 5. Both Oni and Gaki count. You’ll likely complete it within 15–20 minutes of active play in zone 5.

Opening (greet)

“Ash in the wind, ash in the teeth. Welcome to the wastes, traveler — pull up a cart wheel and rest. I’ve wares for the bold, and a sharp eye for those who’d earn a discount the hard way.”

Options:

• “Show me your wares” → opens the shop.
• “What are these wastes?” → “Cinders and hunger. The Oni gather here, drawn by something deep in the earth. I do not ask what. I sell, I buy, I move on. The wastes are not a place for questions.” (continues to lore)
• “Maybe later” → “The ash waits for no one. I’ll be here when your coin returns.” (ends conversation)

lore

“I was a wanderer in life, too. The road was green then, and the inns were warm. Now the road is ash, and the inns are graves. But the wandering — the wandering is the same. Move, or be moved.”

Options:

• “Thank you” → “Save your thanks. Spend your coin. The Oni grow restless after dark.” (ends conversation)

When to visit

Visit the Ash Wanderer:

• Once, when you first enter zone 5, to advance the quest chain and accept “Ash Revenant Hunt”.
• Whenever you need to sell loot in the mid-game. She’s closer than the Kitsune Merchant if you’re farming zone 5 or 6.
• When you can afford a mid-game upgrade. Her gear is appropriate for levels 20–30.
• After killing 10 enemies in zone 5, to claim the “Ash Revenant Hunt” reward (300g + Oni Mask).
